What Can I Expect During a Vasectomy?

A vasectomy is a quick outpatient procedure. Your urologist will sterilize the treatment area and a local pain-blocking injection will be given so you will not feel anything. Then, a very small puncture or incision will be made at the base of the testicles where the vas deferens can be pulled through the incision. They will be gently severed and then tied off. Then, the tubes will be placed back inside. The incision is often so small that stitches are not needed.
