Peyronie’s Disease: What Happens Without Treatment?
Peyronie’s disease, a condition characterized by penile curvature due to scar tissue formation, follows different progression patterns when left untreated. According to medical experts, there are three main outcomes patients may experience:
For a small minority of men, the condition improves naturally over time. While the penis may not return completely to its original straightness, some degree of improvement occurs without intervention.
A significant number of patients experience stabilization of the disease. In these cases, the curvature neither worsens nor improves but remains at a consistent angle. Many men in this category maintain satisfactory sexual function despite the curvature, making treatment unnecessary.
Unfortunately, another substantial group experiences progressive worsening of the condition. The collagen deposition and scar tissue (or “plaque”) continue to develop, causing increased curvature and sometimes penile shortening. This progression can eventually impact sexual function and quality of life significantly.
Medical professionals typically recommend evaluation when Peyronie’s disease begins to interfere with sexual activity or causes persistent discomfort, as various treatment options exist for those whose condition doesn’t improve naturally.
